The Los Angeles Riots Begin

March 14, 1994

On March 14, 1994, tensions in Los Angeles reached a boiling point, leading to the outbreak of violent riots after the acquittal of four police officers who had been filmed beating Rodney King. The unrest lasted for several days, with widespread looting, arson, and clashes between rioters and law enforcement. Over 50 people were killed, and thousands more were injured. The riots brought national attention to issues of police brutality, racial inequality, and economic disparity. In response, the city implemented sweeping reforms in policing and social policy.
