The Oklahoma City Bombing

April 19, 1995

On April 19, 1995, a truck bomb exploded outside the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City, killing 168 people, including 19 children. It was the deadliest terrorist attack on U.S. soil at the time and remains the deadliest act of domestic terrorism in the countrys history. The bombing was carried out by Timothy McVeigh and Terry Nichols, who were motivated by anti-government sentiment. The attack led to the destruction of part of the federal building and triggered a massive national response. McVeigh was executed in 2001, and the bombing sparked a reassessment of security measures at federal buildings.
