The Little Rock Nine Crisis

September 4, 1957

On September 4, 1957, nine African-American students, known as the Little Rock Nine, attempted to integrate Central High School in Little Rock, Arkansas. They faced violent opposition from white segregationists, and the governor sent the Arkansas National Guard to prevent their entry. After President Dwight D. Eisenhower intervened, federal troops were sent to protect the students and ensure their safe entry. The event became a symbol of the struggle for civil rights and racial integration in the United States. The bravery of the Little Rock Nine left a lasting legacy in the fight for equal educational opportunities.
