On July 25, 1984, a bioterror attack occurred in The Dalles, Oregon, perpetrated by followers of the Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh. The group used salmonella bacteria to contaminate salad bars at several restaurants, causing over 750 people to fall ill. This was the largest bioterrorism attack in U.S. history. The attack was part of a series of criminal activities committed by the Rajneesh cult, which sought to gain political power in Wasco County. The incident led to the conviction of several members of the Rajneeshee organization.
