The Qana Airstrike

July 29, 2006

On July 29, 2006, during the Israel-Hezbollah conflict, an Israeli airstrike hit a building in the Lebanese village of Qana, killing at least 28 people, many of them women and children. The attack occurred while civilians were sheltering in the building, prompting widespread international outrage. The Israeli military claimed they were targeting Hezbollah fighters, but the deaths of innocent civilians led to criticism of the airstrikes accuracy. The bombing worsened relations between Israel and Lebanon and was a turning point in the conflict. It also led to calls for an immediate ceasefire in the region.
