The World Trade Center Bombing

February 23, 1993

On February 23, 1993, a truck bomb exploded in the underground parking garage of the World Trade Center in New York City, killing six people and injuring over 1,000 others. The bombing was carried out by a group of terrorists with ties to extremist organizations, aiming to bring down the Twin Towers. The blast caused extensive structural damage, but the buildings remained standing, and the attack was considered a failure in terms of its intended goal. However, it marked the beginning of a new wave of terrorism aimed at U.S. targets. The bombing was a precursor to the September 11 attacks, which would have devastating consequences for the U.S. and the world.
