Scud Missile Attack on Dharan

February 25, 1991

On February 25, 1991, the Scud missile attack on Dharan occurred during the Gulf War in Saudi Arabia. Iraqi forces launched a series of Scud missiles at the U.S.-led coalition forces stationed in the region, with one of the missiles striking a U.S. barracks in the city of Dharan. The attack killed 28 U.S. soldiers and injured over 100 others, making it one of the deadliest incidents for the U.S. military during the war. The missile struck a temporary military housing facility, which was not adequately fortified to withstand the impact. This tragic event highlighted the vulnerability of military personnel during the war and led to increased security measures for U.S. forces in the region.
