On January 10, 2000, a Concorde jet operated by Air France crashed shortly after takeoff from Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris. The crash, caused by a burst tire that ignited a fire, resulted in the deaths of all 109 people on board and four on the ground. The crash was one of the few fatal accidents in the Concordes history, which had been known for its supersonic speed and luxury. The event led to immediate grounding of Concorde flights for safety modifications. The Concorde was retired in 2003.
