On May 20, 2003, U.S. forces captured former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein, who had been in hiding since the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq. Husseins capture was a major victory for the coalition forces, signaling the end of his brutal reign. His arrest, however, did not end the instability in Iraq and marked the beginning of years of violent conflict. Hussein was later tried and executed for crimes against humanity. His capture remains one of the defining moments of the Iraq War.
